Hello Kitty Deco Watches

I was checking out the Summer 2012 Sanrio Special Catalog and came across several über kawaii watches featuring Kitty-chan! And they all include some sort of deco details!

One of my faves of the bunch is the strawberry themed watch… I pretty much adore everything about this design! Kitty’s pose is kawaii… And her strawberry outfit is kittilicious!

I like how the deco gives the watch a sense of depth… The mini pearls and crystals are a nice touch too!

The colors on this watch below reminds me of vintage style Kitty…

The embossed bow on the band is cute…

Contrast stitching on the band is a cute detail… Also like the white loops (is that what they are called?)

This watch has a lot more bling with the crystals inside the ring…

The face is also larger than the watches above. That gold bow! I definitely love that!! @___@

Black and gold color combo works well…

Another watch in the same style as previous… But in a pink and silver colorway and different design… Still very girly!

Kitty’s adorable bow again! That is a really awesome detail — and I cannot remember seeing it on any previous Hello Kitty watches either…

Love this combo of Kitty-chan with sweets and a bit of bling!

It’s very whimsical, isn’t it? It is like a pocket watch on a charm bracelet!

Awww, look at the blingy K and the bow charm!

Here is another style (I prefer the above a bit more)…

Look at the cute packaging that it comes in… SO purrr-fect as a gift to a lovely Hello Kitty friend!

One more deco watch! This is another whimsical style… Awww *___*

This is a pocket watch style worn as a necklace.

Kawaii, neh? These are available on Sanrio Japan’s e-commerce… Priced between 3129 – 3990 JPY, or about $38.97 - $49.69. Maybe a few styles will pop up at the Sanrio Boutiques in the U.S.?

PBS Idea Channel Asks: Is Minimalism the Secret to Hello Kitty’s Success?

May 10th, 2012 by hellokittyjunkie

I have a list of reasons why I LOVE Kitty-chan… And as always, I love learning more about everything Kitty — the reasons behind her über success is one of my favorite discussions to have amongst Junkies.

What a happy surprise to receive an e-mail from Lisa from PBS Idea Channel with a topic I am very interested in! Actually, even if you are not a fan of Kitty-chan, this is an insightful video to learn from. Here is the blurb about the episode Is Minimalism the Secret to Hello Kitty’s Success?,

With her cute pink bow and huge noggin, Hello Kitty is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. She sells billions of dollars worth of merchandize, but what is it about this simple cartoon cat that makes her such a beloved piece of pop culture? Ahead of her time when first created in 1974, we think that Hello Kitty used minimalism’s bag of tricks to become the world’s best salesgirl.

*Must-see* (and I recommend at least a few times):

Mike (the host) did a pretty good job. I see his point of view for the most part. The statement he made about Kitty “assuming everything and representing nothing…” made me listen closer tho. Actually, I had to watch it again. I can understand how someone who is detached from Kitty (did not grow up with her in the childhood years) could say that she represents nothing. But I know many Junkies who will disagree with that point.

IMO, Minimalism is definitely not the only reason for Kitty-chan’s success but I do agree that it plays a significant role in Kitty’s popularity and longevity! I feel like this could have been a longer video *Kitty wishful thinking* and if I was in school right now, I would totally write a paper on this matter!!

I think I will watch the video again… I wonder what all the Junkies think…

Thank you Lisa! =^_^=
