Hello Kitty-sicle Stenciled Shirt Pt 2

May 16th, 2008 by hellokittyjunkie

This post is an extension of the Hello Kitty-sicle Stenciled Shirt. I took the three stencils I had and did some spraying over the weekend. I am pretty content with the outcome… I just wish it didn’t take as much time to stencil. My fingers have recovered so I guess I should make some more stencils so I can do different designs. Anyway, I took some pictures of the progress (in hopes of maybe one day making a tutorial on how to stencil)…

I used a piece of cardboard to put in between the front and back of the shirt (so the spray paint will not bleed through from front to back, or vice versa) and a glue-stick to place the stencils onto the fabric (I sometimes use spray mount because it is quicker). Below, I also put Hello Kitty’s eyes, nose and bow into place (I cut out the shape, after tracing it onto sticker paper)…

I set up my spray painting area in the garage, opened the door for ventilation, and laid down a cardboard box. I had a lot of extra pieces of paper and tape so I can mask off other areas of the shirt…

After spraying with black spray paint, I put it out in the sun. I must have lost focus because I didn’t do the best job masking off the stencil…

I also lightly glue-sticked the stencil — which gave the graphic a bit of an over-sprayed look…

Lifting the stencil from the shirt — hoping that I used enough glue-stick to hold the stencil down…

Voilà!

I left the small sticker paper parts on the shirt while the paint dried…

I remembered I has some underwear I bought previously so I can stencil on them… So I put it to use…

I started taking off the little parts with an x-acto knife…

I find that the x-acto knives give me more control and precision…

Here is my creations for the day…

I was supposed to take pictures of my sister Banana modeling them. I want to make more too, I just need to block out a big chunk of time because it took me a few hours.
