This post is mostly for roxy — Yes, I got my Hula Tropical Hello Kitty! And Charmmy Kitty too — by sheer luck!
I went to the mall this past Sunday about one hour before the mall closed. There weren’t any Hula grass skirt outfits on the racks so mine is actually off of a display Hello Kitty (I felt a little bad for making her take it off). One thing I have to say about the people who work at Build-A-Bear — They are super-friendly! Everybody was nice and not pushy and annoying like they can be at certain stores.
I have never built my own plushie and I didn’t know what I was in store for… So when I participated in the workshop, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a fantastic concept: choose what type of animal you want and look for clothing for your new friend — and there are plenty to choose from. I saw Dodgers and Lakers outfitted bears and even a mermaid outfitted bear on display. When I was ready to stuff my Hello Kitty, I went over to the stuffing machine, where I got to participate in bringing her to life.
I picked out a red heart and pumped it, shook it, rubbed it, warmed it up… And put it inside Hello Kitty…
A tropical Hello Kitty is born…
I named her Leilani and got a birth certificate for her. I brought home Baby Leilani in this cute box:
Baby Leilani and her birth certificate…
Leilani and Charmm Kitty:
Cute cute Hello Kitty floral print underwear!
There is a hole for her tail in her undies:
The coconut top is padded, not sure if you can tell…
Just thought the tag was really sweet, “Stitched with love…”
Leilani all dressed up with Charmmy Kitty:
I got the last Charmmy Kitty! When I told a salesperson that I love Hello Kitty and I can’t wait for my Charmmy Kitty, he told me they ran out. I was sad but I was still going to get my tropical Hello Kitty. But by the time I was finished with the birth certificate (you use the computer in store to register your new plushie), he was able to find one in the back somewhere! I felt so lucky!

Wonderful photos! We’d love it if you’d add them to our Build-A-Bear Workshop Hello Kitty group on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/buildabearworkshop_hellokitty/
yay you got it!! i went sunday morning a few min before opening. i must say the people there are really nice. i thought the padded coconuts were slightly funny it made me giggle. i am happy for you that you got the last charmmy!
BE CAREFUL. Build-a-Bear is addictive as hell and I feel like an idiot wasting so much money there. I have the original white Hello Kitty from there and I think I spend more money on clothes for her than I do for myself.
Yes — too addictive… I know what you mean!
I LOVE YOU! I have to go to build a bear next week now, because I found your site and this post! My heart skipped like a million beats! I’m a hello kitty freak! I’m known at the mall as “the girl with the hello kitty debit card”. I love being known for being a freak
