Hello Kitty = My Crack Cocaine

If you would like to drop me a line, my e-mail addy is maria@hellokittyjunkie.com
About me (a little bit longer)…
I was born in Japan (to a Japanese mother) and I lived in Japan and Korea for part of my childhood. My mom married my step-dad, my younger brother’s father. My family moved to California when I was eight and when Ed (my brother) was three. I do not know when exactly I started my adoration of Hello Kitty… but I do know I was very young… And it happened in Japan. I know this… Not because I remember it, but because I have pictures of myself when I was younger with Sanrio things (And because my mom tells me so).
Time passed by… My little sister Anna, I call her Banana, came into our lives. My mom bought us Sanrio products for Birthdays and holidays — I have pictures to prove it. I associate Kero Kero Keroppi with Ed, Pochacco with Banana and Ahiru No Pekkle with myself (although Hello Kitty is my absolute favorite). My siblings have grown out of the Sanrio phase… But not me! Banana has a few Sanrio products from time to time, but I end up taking them from her borrowing them from her (I would totally give them back to her if she could not live without them). She makes fun of me and my adoration of Hello Kitty, yet she buys me some of the more outrageous things, i.e. pink Hello Kitty body pillow.
Reasons I love Kitty-chan
I will attempt to list why she brings me so much happiness (This is a partial list and is subject to be continued at a later date…):
- Hello Kitty reminds me of my childhood (youthful innocence)
- Hello Kitty reminds me of Japan (my family and my homeland)
- Hello Kitty reminds my family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. of me!
- Hello Kitty loves everyone
- Hello Kitty is a universal poster child for caring, sharing, happiness, friendship… And all that other good stuff
- I grew up with Hello Kitty
- Sanrio brands her to everybody
- Hello Kitty brings people together
- Hello Kitty embodies innocence, sentimentality and harmony
- Hello Kitty just wants to be loved, trusted and respected
- Hello Kitty promotes “social communication”
- Hello Kitty is Japan’s official ambassador of tourism
- Hello Kitty is a pop culture icon
- Hello Kitty is a fashionista
- UNICEF named Hello Kitty “Special Friend of Children”
Obviously, I am a pretty huge fanatic, but I have seen some stranger things that other people on the web have done… So I cannot call myself the #1 biggest fan in the whole entire world (even though many people I have met seem to think I am Hello Kitty’s ichiban fan)…

So… In real life, my profession is in the Graphic Design Field. Currently, I am job hunting and you can see my on-line portfolio at mariafleischman.com… Because artists always look for work. My ultimate goal is to have tons and tons of freedom and freelance for a living… And have a huge Hello Kitty collection… And travel the world… And just create and design everyday… Maybe even own my own Hello Kitty and other Kawaii things boutique shop… One day…
