Joii = Sweet!

June 11th, 2008

My super talented friend Joii is in Thailand right now and I was happily surprised to see an e-mail in my inbox — with pictures attached! I told her she looks like a little girl at summer camp, hehe…

Joii Painting a Hello Kitty Figure in Thailand

This is precious, right? It reminds me of this place I used to go to when I was younger, called Kreative Kingdom or Creative Castle. It was a place where you can pick out your own plaster figures and paint. I even had a Birthday party there when I was 11 (I think)… Anyway, these image made me feel a little nostalgic.

Hello Kitty-sicle Stenciled Shirt Pt 3

May 24th, 2008

My sister Anna Banana wore my stenciled Kitty-sicle shirt out in public — to the movies… And the picture below is her profile pic on her myspace!

Joy said the text placement is like a tramp stamp…

Hello Kitty-sicle Stenciled Shirt Pt 2

May 16th, 2008

This post is an extension of the Hello Kitty-sicle Stenciled Shirt. I took the three stencils I had and did some spraying over the weekend. I am pretty content with the outcome… I just wish it didn’t take as much time to stencil. My fingers have recovered so I guess I should make some more stencils so I can do different designs. Anyway, I took some pictures of the progress (in hopes of maybe one day making a tutorial on how to stencil)…

Hello Kitty-sicle Stencils

I used a piece of cardboard to put in between the front and back of the shirt (so the spray paint will not bleed through from front to back, or vice versa) and a glue-stick to place the stencils onto the fabric (I sometimes use spray mount because it is quicker). Below, I also put Hello Kitty’s eyes, nose and bow into place (I cut out the shape, after tracing it onto sticker paper)…

I set up my spray painting area in the garage, opened the door for ventilation, and laid down a cardboard box. I had a lot of extra pieces of paper and tape so I can mask off other areas of the shirt…

After spraying with black spray paint, I put it out in the sun. I must have lost focus because I didn’t do the best job masking off the stencil…

Hello Kitty-sicle Stencils

I also lightly glue-sticked the stencil — which gave the graphic a bit of an over-sprayed look…

Lifting the stencil from the shirt — hoping that I used enough glue-stick to hold the stencil down…

Voilà!

I left the small sticker paper parts on the shirt while the paint dried…

I remembered I has some underwear I bought previously so I can stencil on them… So I put it to use…

I started taking off the little parts with an x-acto knife…

I find that the x-acto knives give me more control and precision…

Here is my creations for the day…

I was supposed to take pictures of my sister Banana modeling them. I want to make more too, I just need to block out a big chunk of time because it took me a few hours.

My Kittirific X-Stitch Box

May 14th, 2008

I posted earlier in Cute Cute Cute! Sanrio DIY Crafts about how I was going to start cross-stitching soon. Well, I started! But before I even put thread through the needle, I got organized — the kittirific way. I bought an inexpensive clear sewing organizer. I got out my Hello Kitty activity and coloring books and my Sharpie markers. I wasn’t completely sure if the markers were going to stay on the plastic, but it worked for me (a little scratches here and there… I try to be a lot more careful now). All I did was put the a page from the coloring book under the top and traced the image. Where I messed up, I just added some lashes, thickened the strokes… You get the idea…

It felt a little empty with just Hello Kitty so…

I added Tim and Tammy, Hello Kitty’s little monkey friends to keep her company…

And a little cupcake… I think it came out ok. I like it better than the plain organizer it was before… And it gives me another thing I can post up here. It’s a fun little simple project for anyone who wants to kittify something without having to commit too much time (or money).

Here is my progress of the Sanrio Rainbow x-stitch pattern I started… Oh boy! Do I have a long way to go!

Cute Cute Cute! Sanrio DIY Crafts

May 10th, 2008

I remember seeing this site a long time ago — Sanrio DIY Crafts. I even downloaded a lot of the free cross-stitch patterns. I think I really like the Sanrio Rainbow pattern…

Sanrio Cross-Stitch Pattern

Pochacco, Chococat, Badtz Maru, Hello Kitty and My Melody! Ooooh-la-la! (=^-^=) So I think I will start on it right after I am finished with my Mother’s Day flowers. Hopefully, I will finish it (I have a habit of starting things and never completing them).
